August 2, 2012 - Jason's back in the hospital

Well, Jason was admitted to the hospital again today, only this time it wasn't because he was having any difficulty or feeling extra pain - it was because he is getting ready to head back to Bethesda. There still isn't a solid travel date set, but it will most likely happen before August 6, and I personally think it could happen as early as tomorrow. His spirits are high and he is feeling pretty positive for the trip, and he is confident that they girls are being taken care of. They are with us, Grandma and Grandpa, and will be staying with us for at least the next couple of weeks, and then we will all get together to determine what is going to be happening. We may end up keeping them with us for the entire stay, but that has yet to be determined.

We have been calling and Skyping with Jason for the past few days, and the girls really enjoy getting a chance to talk with Daddy. It is even better with Skype, and they get to see Daddy. Today they had to settle for just talking since Jason didn't have his system set up yet, but if he is still there tomorrow we will once again be able to look at each other.

I have to admit that this next step for Jason's treatment is tough for me, especially with the fact that I am not with him. It is good to be back home and getting to sleep in my own bed, but I have been through so much of the recovery it is really hard to just let go. It is the right thing to do, and I know it, so I'm happy to be able to call him regularly. It is also good to get reestablished back at home and Linda is happy about that - we're actually sleeping together again... ;-)

Again, I'm going to close with a thank you, for all the continued prayers of support and for all the positive feelings that have been coming our way.

    Oh what comforting words! Praying so very hard that the trip and surgery is a huge success!!!!!

    You guys are great parents and great grandparents. You have kept such a remarkable journal and I can't imagine the feelings you must be experiencing right now not heading back to Bethesda with Jason, but knowing it's the right thing to do.

    All the best. Hopefully, hopefully, we'll be able to see him if we get the chance to go to Walter Reed this month.

    I know the outcome will be positive from his trip to Bethesda. You and Linda are helping Jason so very much. I do look forward to updates on this next chapter of his healing.

10 Alive Day (10 Years after the blast)

 Wow! It has been 10 years today, that Jason was injured and despite all the expectations from the medical folks, he's still alive and as positive and active as ever. Most of you are aware that he is into sled-hockey and that we haven't been able to get out and play for over a year now. There is a positive side to all this, though, as the timing of the shut downs and the length of the pandemic. It began just as Jason's team (the Ducks) was getting ready to go to the championship tournament, in Philadelphia, when everything was shut down. This meant that because they were defending champions they simply maintained the title. Then the following season was cancelled so the third year they have kept the title as well... trouble is that no- body wants to keep it that way. I know I haven't been keeping up with the blog and posting as often as I said I would, but I guess that's what happens when the days really do start to seem more normal, and don't feel like there is much to update about. Then when there is something exciting going on, by the time I can get to the blog I'm pretty well worn out for the day and then I'm slow to get to it afterward. Well, I will continue to provide updates, as I can and we'll just have to see where it takes us. Jason's sled hockey season is over and he had a great time with it. He was not able to go to the final tournament, in Chicago, due to travel challenges. First challenge was simply getting there - there really isn't any way to get there, that doesn't simply totally wear him out, and then he needs the next day to recover. Again, I have no reasonable excuse other than to say I got side tracked. On the last post I mentioned that Jason had gotten injured, while playing in the hockey tournament. Well, as it turned out it was a more serious injury than either of us had suspected. The outcome was that he lost some soft tissue and a section of his pelvic bone was exposed (about the size of a quarter) and he is now required to have a wound-vac so that it can heal properly. This means that he has to spend most of his time in bed and can only be up in his chair for no more than 20 minutes at a time, and that followed by hours of rest time. The rest time is for the injury, and not necessarily for Jason, as he isn't tired. As you can imagine, he gets very board with this "life style" and wants to get up and go do something. We've been going in to wound-care frequently, once or twice each week, and they keep telling us, "...we'll take a look at it next week, to see what happens next.&quo
