Wow! What a week its been.
Jason had his first sled hockey game and it was great! They had nearly a full roster, so there were enough team players to insure rotations and that no one would be totally worn out. The Kings were equally staffed so it was a nice balance. Jason had a couple of nice opportunities to take shots at the goal, and though he did not score, the fact that he was where he needed to be was excellent. Of the players on the Ducks, Jason is probably one of the most improved, and most challenged. Because of his injuries his balance is much different than the other guys, and so it is a bit more difficult for him to maneuver. There is an effort underway, right now, to get him a different sled that would make it a more equal level for him, but that is still a little ways out. The game lasted just a little over an hour and at the end the Ducks had won.... 6 to 0.
There were other things going on during this past week, such as his medical appointments, and even a chance to get over to the gym. The gym was nothing special, as we've been going there pretty regularly for the past several weeks, with Jason going even when I can not. The other item mentioned, his appointments, all went pretty good, showing that he is improving on all areas. For a while it wasn't like that, so we are particularly happy to see this. The other amazing thing that happened was that Dr. Deb Malone happened to reach out to us, and let us know she was in the area. Dr. Malone is the trauma surgeon who was Jason's primary doctor, when he arrived in Bethesda, back in March 2011. We were so tickled to be able to see her again and she was very happy to see us.
Jason had a scheduled Wound Care appointment with the VA, at the La Jolla hospital, and I asked her if she would be able to attend the appointment with Jason. She said she would as long as Jason wanted her to be there. Jason was VERY supportive of that idea, and actually, that's where we were all able to finally get to see each other. During the exam the VA doctor and Dr. Malone were able to discuss what was going on and what could/should be done. I was able to provide some insight, as I have been working with the wounds for a long time now. There is now a strong tie with the doctors in the now Walter-Reed hospital (we used to call it simply Bethesda), the VA hospital and with the team in Balboa, at that Naval Hospital. I don't want to go too far into what was discussed right now, just know that some positive energy is working for Jason.
Then, on top of everything else we were invited to attend the GI Film Festival, in San Diego. Karen R. had come to visit us, and she and Linda had taken some time to spend together and the two of them visited Joycelyn B., so we thought it would be cool to bring her along with us. We saw a Gary Sinise sponsored film and two others, all dealing with the lives of different veterans, from WWII through to Afghanistan. The two other films were very good and we enjoyed watching them, but the one that had a focus on Gary Sinise was our favorite. A really great part of that movie was a part where Stacy had a major role speaking with Gary, when he came to visit us at our house. Stacy did a great job.
Finally, Jason has also been invited to go to a football game, to be a special guest of the Rams. Linda and I will be going as well, but he was the special invitee. The game is to be played on November 12, in Los Angeles against the Texans. From what I've heard it sounds like it is going to be possibly a very fun time. I still have to do some communicating with the team, but I should have most of what is needed done by tomorrow. Thank you, for all the continued support and prayers. Take care and stay positive.

What amazing promises! Praying for you right now!
