3/14/11 Update

Well today was another roller coaster of a day, and so far has seemed to have ended on a high. We have met so many doctors and nurses that it kind of makes my head swim, but they all seem to have a great deal of focus on Jason and his recovery, and the head doctor, Dr. Malone, has been great about keeping us up dated.

Jason had to go in for more "clean up" surgery and it took several hours to accomplish. Before he went in they provided us with some of the details of what they wanted to do, and basically what they expected to find (the down). We had to wait about six and a half hours, when they were completed to find out that what they found was much better than they had thought they would find and they only had to remove a smaller amount of tissue. Though we don't want ANY more removed the fact that only a smaller area was showing signs of infection showed that Jason's body was fighting back and doing a good job of it (the high).

Jason still can not speak, and is still in a drug induced comma, but we are hopeful that he will be able to show that he can breath on his own through the night and into tomorrow. Then they will begin taking the breather off of him. We are vary anxious to be able to speak with him, but even after it is removed it may take a day or two for him to be able to communicate. I will continue to provide posts and updates as they come. Right now we're headed back over to be with him. Thank you all for your continued support.

    Our thoughts and prayers are with you always. God bless you for your journaling, it is a tremendous help for us and I hope you also. Hugs to you and all the Ross family. What an amazing man Jason is, but we knew that all along didn't we.

    That is wonderful that they only needed to remove a small amount of tissue. Once everything is cleaned I think you will be amazed at how quickly Jason progresses. We are keeping you all in our prayers. -Jake

    Thank you for keeping us posted on Jason. The PMF (Pleasanton Military Families) had sent out a request for prayers to be sent your way, and trust me, they are! We all may not have been involved in PMF when you were, but we love you and are holding on and praying with you always.
    If we can do ANYTHING here in P-town while you are away, please feel free to ask, and we will "get 'er done"

10 Alive Day (10 Years after the blast)

 Wow! It has been 10 years today, that Jason was injured and despite all the expectations from the medical folks, he's still alive and as positive and active as ever. Most of you are aware that he is into sled-hockey and that we haven't been able to get out and play for over a year now. There is a positive side to all this, though, as the timing of the shut downs and the length of the pandemic. It began just as Jason's team (the Ducks) was getting ready to go to the championship tournament, in Philadelphia, when everything was shut down. This meant that because they were defending champions they simply maintained the title. Then the following season was cancelled so the third year they have kept the title as well... trouble is that no- body wants to keep it that way. I know I haven't been keeping up with the blog and posting as often as I said I would, but I guess that's what happens when the days really do start to seem more normal, and don't feel like there is much to update about. Then when there is something exciting going on, by the time I can get to the blog I'm pretty well worn out for the day and then I'm slow to get to it afterward. Well, I will continue to provide updates, as I can and we'll just have to see where it takes us. Jason's sled hockey season is over and he had a great time with it. He was not able to go to the final tournament, in Chicago, due to travel challenges. First challenge was simply getting there - there really isn't any way to get there, that doesn't simply totally wear him out, and then he needs the next day to recover. Again, I have no reasonable excuse other than to say I got side tracked. On the last post I mentioned that Jason had gotten injured, while playing in the hockey tournament. Well, as it turned out it was a more serious injury than either of us had suspected. The outcome was that he lost some soft tissue and a section of his pelvic bone was exposed (about the size of a quarter) and he is now required to have a wound-vac so that it can heal properly. This means that he has to spend most of his time in bed and can only be up in his chair for no more than 20 minutes at a time, and that followed by hours of rest time. The rest time is for the injury, and not necessarily for Jason, as he isn't tired. As you can imagine, he gets very board with this "life style" and wants to get up and go do something.
