Jason went to the PACU early today - well, actually he went twice. The first time they came to get him it was a little before 6:30am and while they were moving him he told them that he didn't think there were any people down at the PACU yet, and that it was just too early. When they got there, there wasn't anyone around, so they took Jason back up. A short while later the trip was made again, and this time there were some folks there, so Jason stayed down and the procedure/dressing change was done.

The dressing change was just that, a clean out of the wound area and new dressings applied to the wound. For the most part he was comfortable, though he is still dealing with H.O. (heterotopic ossification) and will be for a while longer. It is where the body generates a calcium buildup to help compensate for bone loss. It will continue with this until it runs its course and then the doctors can remove it. I don't believe it will have a negative impact on the overall course of his recovery, it is just something Jason is having to deal with right now.

Jason decided to not get out on his cart or in his chair today, and that was okay with me. I think he wants to go outside again, and today was not a good day for that. We had some significant thunderstorms today, and the rain came down pretty hard. That was okay, as we got a chance to talk and he relaxed by playing some video games on his laptop. I still had a few things to move from the room, to get ready for the move on Tuesday, so it all worked out.

MGnySgt Tood came by again today, with another Marine from the Wounded Warrior Battalion. They stayed for a short visit and one of the things that he told Jason, after seeing the SF Giants stuff on the wall was that he got the opportunity to sit down with a few of the SF Giants players last year, during Spring Training. I think Jason kinda liked that idea - I know I did... ;-) They stayed for a short visit and because MGnySgt Tood has been by a few times now, when he left he just said I'll see you guys later. I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up in another day or two.

    Sounds like a nice relaxing day today after the PACU. Hope the weather gets nicer so you guys can get outside again. It's supposed to get hot here again this week, back into the 90s. I went for a 2.5 mile walk after dinner tonight and dedicated it to you, Jason. In fact, I'm joining a gym tomorrow so I can lose this weight and get in shape. I have a very long road to go but Jason is my inspiration and hero. I figure that while I'm walking and working out it is the perfect time to be saying my prayers for Jason. 10 Alive Day (10 Years after the blast)

 Wow! It has been 10 years today, that Jason was injured and despite all the expectations from the medical folks, he's still alive and as positive and active as ever. Most of you are aware that he is into sled-hockey and that we haven't been able to get out and play for over a year now. There is a positive side to all this, though, as the timing of the shut downs and the length of the pandemic. It began just as Jason's team (the Ducks) was getting ready to go to the championship tournament, in Philadelphia, when everything was shut down. This meant that because they were defending champions they simply maintained the title. Then the following season was cancelled so the third year they have kept the title as well... trouble is that no- body wants to keep it that way. I know I haven't been keeping up with the blog and posting as often as I said I would, but I guess that's what happens when the days really do start to seem more normal, and don't feel like there is much to update about. Then when there is something exciting going on, by the time I can get to the blog I'm pretty well worn out for the day and then I'm slow to get to it afterward. Well, I will continue to provide updates, as I can and we'll just have to see where it takes us. Jason's sled hockey season is over and he had a great time with it. He was not able to go to the final tournament, in Chicago, due to travel challenges. First challenge was simply getting there - there really isn't any way to get there, that doesn't simply totally wear him out, and then he needs the next day to recover. Again, I have no reasonable excuse other than to say I got side tracked. On the last post I mentioned that Jason had gotten injured, while playing in the hockey tournament. Well, as it turned out it was a more serious injury than either of us had suspected. The outcome was that he lost some soft tissue and a section of his pelvic bone was exposed (about the size of a quarter) and he is now required to have a wound-vac so that it can heal properly. This means that he has to spend most of his time in bed and can only be up in his chair for no more than 20 minutes at a time, and that followed by hours of rest time. The rest time is for the injury, and not necessarily for Jason, as he isn't tired. As you can imagine, he gets very board with this "life style" and wants to get up and go do something.
