3/13/2011 Evening

I just returned from seeing Jason and his eyes are beginning to open, and he is starting to recognize different people. He is also starting to respond to questions by blinking his eyes, sense he still can not speak. They are happy with his progress and are feeling cautiously optimistic (there's that phrase again) for Jason and his recovery. My heart dropped, when I actually got to see some of his wounds but I did my best to not show reaction. Since it was just me, Jason and the medical staff I think I did pretty well. I still deal with the pain of seeing him like this, and Mom is doing her best to cope, and the Marines are providing us with support and counseling.

About the best thing that has happened so far has been that today, while I was talking to him, I asked him to squeeze my hand and he did. That showed a solid sign that he had control of his hands and there was probably no neurological damage in his arm and hand (this was his left hand). The right arm is still immobilized, so we won't know about that one for a little while, and even so we are confident he will have full use of both his arms and hands. More updates coming in the morning...

  5. Compadres, my prayers are for all of you and especially my mijo Jason. Please let him know that Nino and Nina love him very much and we have him in constant prayer. I wish I could be there. Celeste and Damian send their love. I know God will give Jason the strength to make it through these days to come.

  6. George and Linda, Thanks for providing this blog to update those of us praying for all of you from afar. You were all in the hearts, minds and prayers of the women on the FPC women's retreat last weekend where we also missed Linda's presence with us. Since I have just found the blog today I read all the entries to get caught up and I can already sense and see progress which is so good. I prayer that your presence will give Jason the love, support and hope that he needs for a complete recovery.
