A good day at Bethesda 03/29/2011

Today was a good day for Jason. The problems he was having yesterday are all past him now, and they moved him up from the 3rd floor back to the 5th floor, and he was pretty happy about it. His mood is good and he was able to relax a bit more, for the first time, and catch up a bit on his sleep. He still isn't able to read, though he enjoyed the gamers magazine that his brother Sean gave him. He can scan through the pictures to figure out at least part of what is going on. His vision is a bit blurred still, and I think it is a result of the medication he is being given. He can see well enough, though, to watch Robin Hood (Russell Crowe) as he had not seen that movie yet. Other than that, it was pretty much just a day of relaxing and working with the doctors.

He has another surgery tomorrow, early in the morning, where they will give him another general anesthetic, clean out some the wounds and make some assessments of what to do next. I don't want to sound so routine, as these surgeries take anywhere from four to six hours, and each time they take just a little more of the parts that need to be removed. The hope is that each time now will be the last time they have to remove tissue, and then they can do more closing, so keep those prayers coming. I told Jason that he has a bunch of followers now, and a bunch more who read the blog on a regular basis. It made him smile...

I'll keep updating this blog, as long as Jason is happy with me doing this. It helps to keep his spirits up and helps me to feel like I'm doing something. Thank you, for your prayers and support. For those of you who have requested his address, I'll put it here again:

    When I read that Jason has to have ANOTHER surgery I feel a pain in my stomach. It makes me so sad that he and all of the other wounded warriors have to go through this.

    God bless him and we will keep him in our prayers on a daily basis.

    George, I was wondering if there is anything that you and Linda might want, need or find comforting in this extremely difficult time? Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you and your family.

    Good to know Jason is staying positive and strong. I am in awe of that. We all continue our prayers for Jason and the whole family too, every day. I can see that our Lord is listening and responding every time I read that Jason continues to improve.

    I can not wait to read that Jason will no longer need more surgery! There is so much more that people don't realize with war injuries. God bless Jason!! He is everyone's son who reads this blog. Thank you for sharing this journey with us. God is definitely hearing ALL of our prayers. And... what are your and Linda's needs, I would sure like to help!

10 Alive Day (10 Years after the blast)

 Wow! It has been 10 years today, that Jason was injured and despite all the expectations from the medical folks, he's still alive and as positive and active as ever. Most of you are aware that he is into sled-hockey and that we haven't been able to get out and play for over a year now. There is a positive side to all this, though, as the timing of the shut downs and the length of the pandemic. It began just as Jason's team (the Ducks) was getting ready to go to the championship tournament, in Philadelphia, when everything was shut down. This meant that because they were defending champions they simply maintained the title. I know I haven't been keeping up with the blog and posting as often as I said I would, but I guess that's what happens when the days really do start to seem more normal, and don't feel like there is much to update about. Then when there is something exciting going on, by the time I can get to the blog I'm pretty well worn out for the day and then I'm slow to get to it afterward. Well, I will continue to provide updates, as I can and we'll just have to see where it takes us. Jason's sled hockey season is over and he had a great time with it. He was not able to go to the final tournament, in Chicago, due to travel challenges. First challenge was simply getting there - there really isn't any way to get there, that doesn't simply totally wear him out, and then he needs the next day to recover.  First - Happy Easter to you all!! We attended the 11:00am services and it was packed. This was a much happier and more "normal" Easter than last year, and I'm glad. I want to apologize that I didn't get any pictures, but I do know that Linda has taken a few these past several days, so it is just a matter of me getting time with her 'droid and then I can pull a few over here.
