October 30, 2011 - We're Leaving!

We went to the Marine Marathon today, and got there at O-Dark-30 this morning. The picture on the blog shows the Iwo monument, where Jason was to meet with Team Extreme. To make the story short, Jason had been up in his chair for nearly four hours when he realized he would not be able to stay for the presentation ceremony, and we came back to the hospital. There was more done while we were there, but I need to keep this blog post very short. I just wanted to be sure to let everyone know what has happened.

While I was taking care of some loose ends and doing some packing I received a call and Jason and I are to be leaving for Balboa, tomorrow morning - early some time. I am in a hurry up mode of packing and don't have much free time now. Once we get to Balboa, we will get settled in and then later this week Linda will be coming down to spend some time with Jason and I. While she is here, her parents - Joe and Jess Lascurain - will be jumping in again to help support her day care. There is actually an interesting story behind that, but suffice to say, "Thank you!" because without their support Linda would not have been able to do what she has been able to do, over these past several months. There are others to thank as well, like the Pleasanton/Livemore Military Families group, and SemperFi Fund, and Wounded EOD Warriors Foundation - but I can't list them all right now.

Bridgette had to take off this morning, to head home to take care of a minor emergency that happened; and, now we are set to leave tomorrow. Funny how things happen sometimes. Please keep Bridgette and the kids in your thoughts and prayers, as we all go through these next couple of days of transition. Also, keep all the families of all the military in your prayers, as sometimes it is very difficult for some of them to deal with the issues they have been dealt, and God's strength is needed.

Not sure if I will be able to blog tomorrow, so I'll say thank you, to all for all your support and prayers, and stay tuned for the next installment. TTFN -

    Jason, Bridgette, the girls, George and Linda,

    You are always in my thoughts and prayers. I read the blog daily...if I miss a day....I get online as early as possible to catch up.

    I am sending my warmest wishes and thoughts to you during the transition to Balboa. I am hoping that Linda can head to San Diego more often. Also hoping the Bridgette and the girls will be able to make the move to San Diego.

    I look forward to the day that I can shake all of your hands. Your family is truly one of the heroes for our country.

    Wow, the day is here George and Jason. The one you dreamed about and hoped and prayed about. I'm so happy for you that this day has come. I've been praying for you ALL along this journey. Congratulations to you and to Dr. Malone and her gifted staff that has helped pull you through. Thank you to Jason for your strength and to the Ross Family that continues to amaze and inspire me on a daily basis. Lastly, thank you God for everything and the lessons we have learned from this experience. Jason, I look forward to the day that I can salute you and share with you. Have a safe journey home!!

    A very busy last week in Bethesda. Today, was a day you wrote about 6 months ago. It is wonderful all of you will be closer to home and out of Bethesda before the cold really hits for the winter. I hope you make in one day as planned. I am sure both of you will be tired Tuesday. It is good to hear your wife will be able to be with your son. It has to have been hard for Mom being so far away.

10 Alive Day (10 Years after the blast)

 Wow! It has been 10 years today, that Jason was injured and despite all the expectations from the medical folks, he's still alive and as positive and active as ever. Most of you are aware that he is into sled-hockey and that we haven't been able to get out and play for over a year now. There is a positive side to all this, though, as the timing of the shut downs and the length of the pandemic. It began just as Jason's team (the Ducks) was getting ready to go to the championship tournament, in Philadelphia, when everything was shut down. This meant that because they were defending champions they simply maintained the title. I know I haven't been keeping up with the blog and posting as often as I said I would, but I guess that's what happens when the days really do start to seem more normal, and don't feel like there is much to update about. Then when there is something exciting going on, by the time I can get to the blog I'm pretty well worn out for the day and then I'm slow to get to it afterward. Well, I will continue to provide updates, as I can and we'll just have to see where it takes us. Jason's sled hockey season is over and he had a great time with it. He was not able to go to the final tournament, in Chicago, due to travel challenges. First challenge was simply getting there - there really isn't any way to get there, that doesn't simply totally wear him out, and then he needs the next day to recover. Again, I have no reasonable excuse other than to say I got side tracked. On the last post I mentioned that Jason had gotten injured, while playing in the hockey tournament. Well, as it turned out it was a more serious injury than either of us had suspected. The outcome was that he lost some soft tissue and a section of his pelvic bone was exposed (about the size of a quarter) and he is now required to have a wound-vac so that it can heal properly. This means that he has to spend most of his time in bed and can only be up in his chair for no more than 20 minutes at a time, and that followed by hours of rest time. The rest time is for the injury, and not necessarily for Jason, as he isn't tired. As you can imagine, he gets very board with this "life style" and wants to get up and go do something. We've been going in to wound-care frequently, once or twice each week, and they keep telling us, "...we'll take a look at it next week, to see what happens next.&quo
