Today was considerably better than yesterday, as the pain level was kept down to a minimum and Jason got some extra rest. With the new graft donor site on his back and the grafted wound site he isn't going to be able to do much moving around for the next couple of days, so its good that it is the weekend. The challenge is that he still needs to "adjust" his position in bed every now and again, and to do that does cause a little pain and discomfort. I've watched Jason do this a couple of times and I can tell it hurts when he does it, though it seems to be more of an irritation or nuisance than a pain that has to be dealt with. The good news is that in a matter of another day or two it won't be bothering his anywhere near as much.

We had a couple of visitors today. Dave the cookie guy and his wife came by, and they had cookies for Jason. They both commented on how big Jason was getting and that he was really starting to build some muscles back up again. Jason really is gaining much of his strength back, and it is good to see it happen. Jason is anxious to get back down to the MATC, and get more into a regular workout routine and pattern. He is still very much a Marine and wants to be in as good a shape as he can be. Another visitor was the Command Sergeant Major who came by to see how Jason and some of the other wounded warriors were doing. He is Army, and it kind of felt very special that he was offering his help, should Jason need it, and you could tell from his manner and the look in his eyes that he really meant it. I am probably several years older than the Command Sergeant Major and I still felt like I was talking to my elder or something.

Otherwise, Jason and I did a few things on the web - yeah, sometimes Jason wants to take a look at a few things on the web and check his email. We had lunch; it was brought in by one of the support organizations; and then we had dinner. I went down to the galley and picked up a couple things for Jason and I to eat. Afterward we watched a movie - The Conspirators - a movie about the post Civil War and the assassination of Lincoln. Very interesting and good movie. After the movie I told Jason good night and came back to the lodge where I am able to do the blogging, as I am right now, and then I'll go to bed.

We'll add an extra prayer that Jason's wife and kids will be able to visit soon; it must be very difficult to be apart during such a hard time in their lives. 10 Alive Day (10 Years after the blast)

 Wow! It has been 10 years today, that Jason was injured and despite all the expectations from the medical folks, he's still alive and as positive and active as ever. Most of you are aware that he is into sled-hockey and that we haven't been able to get out and play for over a year now. There is a positive side to all this, though, as the timing of the shut downs and the length of the pandemic. It began just as Jason's team (the Ducks) was getting ready to go to the championship tournament, in Philadelphia, when everything was shut down. This meant that because they were defending champions they simply maintained the title. Then the following season was cancelled so the third year they have kept the title as well... trouble is that no- body wants to keep it that way. I know I haven't been keeping up with the blog and posting as often as I said I would, but I guess that's what happens when the days really do start to seem more normal, and don't feel like there is much to update about. Then when there is something exciting going on, by the time I can get to the blog I'm pretty well worn out for the day and then I'm slow to get to it afterward. Well, I will continue to provide updates, as I can and we'll just have to see where it takes us. Jason's sled hockey season is over and he had a great time with it. He was not able to go to the final tournament, in Chicago, due to travel challenges. First challenge was simply getting there - there really isn't any way to get there, that doesn't simply totally wear him out, and then he needs the next day to recover. Again, I have no reasonable excuse other than to say I got side tracked. On the last post I mentioned that Jason had gotten injured, while playing in the hockey tournament. Well, as it turned out it was a more serious injury than either of us had suspected. The outcome was that he lost some soft tissue and a section of his pelvic bone was exposed (about the size of a quarter) and he is now required to have a wound-vac so that it can heal properly. This means that he has to spend most of his time in bed and can only be up in his chair for no more than 20 minutes at a time, and that followed by hours of rest time. The rest time is for the injury, and not necessarily for Jason, as he isn't tired. As you can imagine, he gets very board with this "life style" and wants to get up and go do something.
